Introduction
Touch Type Tool is used to move, scale, rotate and overlap individual characters in a word, while still keeping the word editable too. Unlike using the Character panel to rotate and scale characters, the Touch Type tool directly affects only one character at a time.
Edit Text
To format text
- Select Touch Type tool
- Click on the character to select.
- Once clicked, a transformation box with control handles appear around the character.
To manipulate the character use the following options:
- Dragging selected character will move the character.
- Dragging bottom-right control handle scale it horizontally.
- Dragging vertically on the top-left control handle scale it vertically.
- Dragging on top-right control handle will cause the character to scale in proportion.
Below figure shows character selected using this tool. Selected character is highlighted in gray rectangular box.To reset the entire text block and remove all character formatting, choose Reset Panel from the Character panel’s popup menu.
Creating Outline
Once the text is edited, this text can be converted to outlines. Outlines change the text into an object, and text can no longer be edited by typing. This outline can be shared to anyone without sharing the font used to create the text. Turning text into outlines makes it appear as though your text was created with the Pen tool. To turn text into an outline
- Use the Type Tool to create text
- Select the text using Selection Tool
- Go to Type > Create Outlines, to convert the selected text into outline.
Below figure shows the conversion of text into outlines.
