Introduction
Synchronizing audio and video are sometimes necessary if they are recorded separately. Editing unlinked video and audio can also lead to the clips moving out of sync with each other. This can be important when dealing with dialogue, as the mouth will move at a different time to the audio. This post discuss about ways to synchronize audio and video.
Below image shows out of sync audio and video track. Audio track is 6 frames behind of the video track. A positive number shows that the audio is ahead of the video.
Move Into Sync
To synchronize audio and video portions of a clip
- Right-click (Control-click) on the number that appears in Timeline panel of the out-of-sync video or audio clip. Number indicates the amount of time the clip is out of sync with its accompanying video or audio clip.
- Select Move into Sync option. It moves the selected track back into sync.
- Depending on synchronization of audio or video track, a gap might be created in the Timeline.
Synchronization result will vary depending on chosen track. Selecting the audio video track created a gap on the Timeline as shown in below image. Synchronizing the video track, move the video track in the left direction keeping audio track intact.
Slip Into Sync
To synchronize audio and video portions of a clip
- Right-click (Control-click) on the number that appears in Timeline panel of the out-of-sync video or audio clip. Number indicates the amount of time the clip is out of sync with its accompanying video or audio clip.
- Select Slip into Sync option. It moves the selected track back into sync.
- Selecting video portion, will force the video to slip along the timeline, giving new In and Out points for the video. Similar selecting audio portion will have new In and Out points, without changing video. Length of the clip remains the same with a different selection.
Synchronization result will vary depending on chosen track.
