Introduction
Sometimes you may want to change the order of clips once they are there. This article deals with moving clips in the Timeline Panel.
Move Clips
Overwrite Edit is the default mode when dragging clips. Different way to moving clip
- To move audio track to a different track, drag the audio portion of the clip vertically to other audio track. Same applies for video track also.
- For changing video and audio track of a clip, hold Shift key and drag the audio portion to the different audio track. Similarly move video track if required.
- To overwrite with other clips, drag clip and drop it on the track where the other clips are located.
- Hold Ctrl (Command) and drag a clip, drop the clip to a new location to perform insert edit. Clips in all tracks to the right of the drop point shift to the right of the inserted clips. A gap remains in the track from which you move the inserted clips.
Below shows the example of various track move in the timeline panel.
Rearrange Edit
With clip insert, all tracks to the right of the drop point shift to the right of the inserted clips. This shift may cause gap in other track as shown in above example (Clip Insert). To avoid this rearrange edit is used. With Rearrange edit, only clips in the destination track are shifted; clips in other tracks remain as it is. To perform this edit, press Ctrl+Alt (Command+Option) and drag a clip, as drop it to a new location. Releasing the clip performs an insert edit that shifts clips in the destination tracks only.
