Introduction
Motion effect used to adjust position, scale, or rotate of clip within the video frame. To animate clips, set keyframes for Motion properties. To view and adjust the Motion effect properties, open Effect Controls panel and click the triangle next to the Motion name.
Position, scale, or rotation of clip are calculated from clip’s anchor point. Default anchor point is the center of the clip. Anchor point can be adjusted in the Effects Control panel.
Scale Clip
To scale a clip
- Select a clip in the Timeline.
- Go to the Effects Control panel.
- Expand Motion effect properties and click the triangle to the left of Scale.
- Deselect Uniform Scale checkbox if you want to adjust height and width separately.
- Drag the slider to the right to increase the size of the clip. Drag it to the left to decrease the size of the clip.
Rotate Clip
To rotate a clip
- Select a clip in the Timeline.
- Go to the Effects Control panel.
- Expand Motion effect properties and click the triangle to the left of Rotation.
- To apply rotation effect, click on the Rotation coordinate and type in a value, or drag the line inside the circle.
Adjust Anchor Point
To adjust the anchor point
- Select a clip in the Timeline.
- Go to the Effects Control panel.
- To change Anchor Point, click on the Anchor coordinate and type in a values.
Manipulating Using Clip Handles
Position, scale, and rotation of a clip can also be adjusted directly by manipulating handles in the Program Monitor. To apply motion effect using handles
- Select a clip in the Timeline panel and move the playhead to a location of a frame within the clip
- Click the clip in the Program Monitor.
- Click on Motion or the entire line in the Effect Controls panel.
- Handles appear in the Program Monitor on mouser over on/outside the clip
- To position a clip, click in the clip and drag to reposition it.
- To scale the clip, hover mouse around the corner. Drag a corner handle once it shows up. Hold Shift key to scale proportionally.
- To rotate the clip position, hover mouse slightly outside the clip. Drag when the pointer changes into the Rotate icon.
Apply Effects on Clips
To apply same effects to multiple clips simultaneously using paste attributes option:
- Select the clip with effects applied in Timeline Panel.
- Copy clip using by pressing key Ctrl (Command) + C.
- Select other clip to apply the copied effect. Hold Shift key to select multiple clips in Timeline.
- Do one of the following
- With clips selected, right-click and select Paste Attributes from context menu
- Go to Edit > Paste Attributes
- Select which effects will be copied to the selected clips in the pop up window and hit Ok.
