Introduction
Media Browser shows files on computer or external hard drive that can be imported into Premiere Pro. It is located immediately to the right of the Project Panel. To open the Media Browser, go to Window > Media Browser. Below figure shows Media browser in Thumbnail View.
Media Import
Various way by which a asset can be imported into Premiere Pro are:
- Standard importing by choosing File > Import
- Using Media Browser panel
When a media is imported in Premiere Pro, it will create a link to media. Media Browser offers features like hover scrub (useful for media preview) and filter by file type (limit the media listing). Media Browse can also be used to import media from Premiere Pro Projects. Locate the Premiere Pro Project file in media browser and double-click on it to open it. All the sequences and media contained in that project are displayed in the Media Browser.
To import a file(s), select them, then right-click and choose Import. To quickly access a folder, add it Favorite by right-clicking the folder and select Add to Favorites.
Ingesting
Ingesting means adding the media to specified destination. It is used to copy files from a removable memory card to computer and import them into Premiere Pro using the Media Browser. Adobe Media Encoder must be installed to import files this way. Various options in Ingest Settings are
- Copy: Copy of the files will be made.
- Preset: MD5 verification is a fancy way of saying Premiere Pro will double check to make sure everything copied without errors.
- Primary Destination: Defines the location where the files will be copied.
