Layers panel Adobe Photoshop allows us to work with multiple images in a single document. To move through the open documents, press CTRL + Tab key. In order to tile all the open documents
- Go to menu, Window -> Arrange, and then select Tile.
- We can tile in various ways like horizontal and vertical.
The background layer is unique. There are several things you can’t do because it is locked. For example, you can’t change the stacking order. So in order to fix this, click on the lock icon, to unlock the background and convert it to a layer.
Combine Layers
Tile view also useful to combine images, i.e.
- Select move tool by pressing v key.
- Drag the image from one panel and drop it to the other panel.
- Above step will combine the images.
- Drag and drop the background, holding down the Shift key in order to drop it right into the center of the destination document.
In order to keep track of layers, double click on the layer in Layers panel to rename it. If I want to hide and show a layer, I can toggle the visibility by clicking on the eye icon next to the layer. If I want to target a layer, I need to actually click on the layer itself.
To make a layer visible on upper 50% of the image, follow below steps:
- Got to View menu and choose New Guide.
- Enter in a horizontal guide at 50%.
- Tap the V key to select the move tool and then reposition it until I like where it falls in this upper area
- In order to delete the unwanted part, tap M to select the Marquee tool. Then using the guide as a reference, click and drag over the desired area to delete. With it selected and the layer targeted, tap the Delete key in order to delete that information.
- Go to Select menu and choose Deselect to deselect the marqueed selection.
We can also remove the undesired portion using frame tool. To remove using this tool
- Press k key to select the Frame tool
- Drag using the guide as a reference to create a frame around the area that I want to keep.
- Hit Enter key to remove the non selected portion of the image.
- Now, if we look at the Layers panel, we see that we have a new icon. Tap the V key to select the move tool and reposition the selection.
Exporting Layer
We can export individual layers, layer groups. Also multiple versions of a file, to different formats and sizes. To export layer(s)
- Select layer or layer group from Layers panel. Hold down the CTRL key and click to select multiple layers.
- Go to Layer menu, and choose Export As.
- On export dialogue, we can see all the selected layer on the left-hand side.
- Adjust export setting by selecting the individual layer as required. If I needed multiple versions of these, say a low resolution and a high resolution version. I can choose to save multiple sizes at once. Click the plus icon on the left top of the export panel and then choose from any of these different presets.
- Click on Export to export the layers.
