Introduction
Marker are used to identify an important action or sound in a sequence or clip. They are for reference only and do not alter the video.
Marking Points
To add Mark In and Mark Out points, do one of the following:
- Open the clip on the Source Monitor.
- To mark the In point, go to Marker>Mark In. To mark Out point, go to Marker>Mark Out.
- Use Mark In ({) and Mark Out (}) buttons to set the desired start and end for this clip.
- Press I key to set Mark In point and press O to set Mark Out point.
Grey bar under the clip shows clip selection. To place the marked portion of the clip on the timeline, do one of the following:
- Drag the clip onto the timeline from the Project or Source Monitor windows
- Using the Insert/Overwrite buttons as shown in above image.
To alter the marked region, hover move cursor over the Mark In/Out point until two sided arrow shows as shown in above figure. Drag the arrow inward or outward to modify the marked region. Another way is to drag the playhead to a new frame and use the Mark In or Mark Out buttons to set new In or Out points.
Moving Point Together
In/Out Grip icon as shown in the above figure, is present at the center of the textured area between the In and Out points. To move the In and Out point together
- Hover In/Out Grip icon until cursor changes to a hand
- Hold and drag the In/Out Grip to a different position on the Source Monitor.
- In and Out points move together, keeping the duration between them constant.
Creating Subclip
Subclip is created from the media file with smaller duration. Creating subclips can help organize project. To create a subclip
- Double-click a clip in the Project panel to open it in the Source Monitor.
- Set Mark In and Mark Out points for the subclip.
- Go to Clip > Make Subclip, enter a name for the subclip, and click OK.
- Subclip appears in the Project panel with a Subclip icon. In the below image, two subclips are created from a media file.
Clip cannot be trimmed when Restrict Trims To Subclip Boundaries is checked in Make Subclip dialogue box. Clip can be extended till the clip start and end point by dragging trim handle if this option is not checked.
In the below image, two subclip are created from single media. Left clip on the timeline is created with Restrict Trims To Subclip Boundaries checkbox checked. Right clip on the timeline is created with Restrict Trims To Subclip Boundaries checkbox unchecked. Left clip on the left image cannot be trimmed. Right clip on the right image can be trimmed until the trim handle reaches the media actual media duration.
To deselect this option
- Select the subclip
- Right click and go to Edit Sublcip
